Mia,

Thanks for stopping by to read and comment. For me, the song is full of irony, but it's also also a reminder of lies that we teach ourselves and others. Through our actions (and inactions), we teach those around us to not open up and reveal themselves to us. We teach them that pain is something to be avoided, and so they do.

Oscarandre,

I agree. Funny, isn't it, that the same experience causes one to become a rock, and another to become a fountain of emotion? Why is it that when we're hurt repeatedly, we sometimes take on the "victim mentality," and look for evil motives in every action that another takes? Why is it that others, facing similar circumstances, are somehow able to rise above this and not continually live as a victim?

Pain and joy, crying and smiling. For some reason, the coin that shows one seems to always show the other on the opposing side. - Tim

Not hardly... but if I were I'd like to be a rare find.

So here's my feminine perspective...men are seen as "rocks" and "islands" because they rarely share their emotional vulnerability and need for companionship, along the same manner as women do. (That is unless you catch them talking while waiting to be serve on Jury Duty - those judicial halls have a way of making men open up.) Which isn't to say they aren't vulnerable or desiring of companionship. The oddity however as I see it is the manner in which the whole matter is unraveled between men and women.

The video made me smile for two obvious reasons, so much more was communicated in all that was denied and neither of them was alone. Is that called irony?

"It is better to say too much than to not say anything at all."

Thank you for stirring my soul into contemplation.
