Instead of asking our kids “What do you want to be when you grow up?” we should be asking “Who do you want to be when you grow up?” Who my sons are is a lot more important to me than what they are at the moment.
Who do you want to be when you grow up? What kind of person do you strive to be daily?

At night, I look up in the sky, and see the silent sentinel. Every night, it circumscribes its path across the sky, a quiet observer.

Last night, I met my sons for dinner at a Chinese buffet. (My wife was playing bunco, so this was our opportunity to eat Chinese, which she cannot stand.) It was a good, but generally nondescript meal, but the three of us laughed about any number of things as we took our time stuffing ourselves. (more…)

In the security business, there are familiar mechanisms for establishing who you are, and why you deserve access to a building, an area, a computer, and so on. We use similar mechanisms to place value upon celebrities, people in positions of power, and even upon friends and acquaintances. Isn’t it odd that we seem to use similar things for such (apparently) dissimilar purposes?
