My wife and younger son are out of town (football camp), so last night, the older son and I were on our own. After tossing a football around in the back yard for about 45 minutes, we decided to go to a movie.
Instead of being embarrassed at hanging around with his dad, my 18 year-old son gladly went to the movies with me, stood in line to buy tickets to this “G-rated” movie (the movie was his suggestion), and then went in to watch it with me. He even took a minute to talk to his buddies from the basketball team, who were there to watch “X-Men III.”
We both enjoyed the movie, then grabbed some Wendy’s on the way home for a late dinner. If there is a better way to spend an evening than that, I haven’t found it.
I love to shop with my son. He’s excellent company with an acute eye for a bargain. Movies are good, too, but shopping brings us closer together.
It was a good movie too. Funny how Hollywood can’t seem to get away from those “redemption stories.”
