More specifically, I’ve been “Mary Roach’d.” As noted elsewhere, I’ve been reading “Stiff: Curious Lives of Human Cadavers.” The author, Mary Roach, has a style of writing that is out and out hysterical. (more…)

Yesterday, I was reading “Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers,” and noted a factoid that had escaped me before. Apparently, the human brain typically may continue to function (at some level) for 6-10 minutes after the heart stops beating.
For some reason, this factoid stuck in my brain, and at first, I couldn’t figure out why. After some reflection, I realized it must have something to do with the circumstances surrounding my mother’s death. (more…)
