#3: The State of New England

Several years ago, I was quizzing my oldest son about the US state capitals. We went through several.

Father: “California?”
Son: “Sacramento”

Father: “Indiana?”
Son: “Indianapolis”

Father: “New York?”
Son: “Albany”

Idiot Father: “New England?”
Son: …

Son: “uhm… Dad, are you sure that’s a state?”
Idiot Father: “Of course it’s a state. Where do you think the New England Patriots play?”

Now, as if it’s not bad enough that I’ve said something stupid, I decide to prove it to my son, who clearly requires some education about US Geography. So I grab the encyclopedia off the shelf, and flip to the section on New England. Not satisfied, I then said, “Well, where do the Patriots play?”

In unison, my wife and son said, “Massachusetts

That was eight years ago.

He’s not let me forget it since.
